Geologists will tell you that the white cliffs are made of a material called tuff. Apparently is is volcanic ash that landed on the ocean, settled to the bottom and after eons of pressure became a soft white rock. Somehow after millions of years it was slowly pushed up out of the sea. Up close it glistens and from a distance is seems to glow. Anyway, Pismo Beach is a most beautiful part of California. One of my favorite places to visit and to paint. This canvas has a lot of subtle tonal changes and a great deal of texture.
R. W. Goetting is a third generation Californian born in Sacramento who has painted scenes from California and around the world for nearly forty years.
