Title
Sailing ship in Morro Bay
Artist
R W Goetting
Medium
Painting - Oil On Canvas
Description
I watched this two masted ship cruise into Morro Bay California, observing the skill and work needed to make it happen. I have seen some interesting water craft in Morro Bay but this one was one of the finest. I used a rather flat composition which limited depth, making the lines of the hull and masts the structure and painting in the various areas rather heavy with knife and then modifying with a brush here and there. You can see the outline of Morro Rock through the back sail, that part was just for fun............

Masterful work, Bob ... had to see it again. The way your rendered the transparency of the boat's sail with the mountain seen through it, is amazing.

Many years ago I visited Morro Bay but was not fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of this marvelous ship that you represented beautifully in this fine painting. The color and brushwork are fantastic.
R W Goetting replied:
These ships are not there too frequently Barbara, it was just luck. Thank you for the kind words.
