I wonder if the people who lived in Vernazza in the 1500's would recognize it today. The church was already there as was the watchtower. Somehow I suspect that the colors of the various buildings were somewhat subdued compared to what we see today. There is a vibrancy in Vernazza today, after existing through the centuries and having survived a devastating flood in October of 2011. The warm colors of the homes, hotels and shops seem to perfectly compliment the greens and blues of the water and sky.
