Amalfi has been around since the 6th century. It was even a maritime power from the 800's to the 1200"s. The population swelled to 70,000 around 1100, before the Normans and then the Pisans beat them into submission. About 3500 people live there now, catching anchovies, making Lemoncello and welcoming tourists. Ok, enough history. I just tried to capture the casual rustic feel of the place in this painting.
R. W. Goetting is a third generation Californian born in Sacramento who has painted scenes from California and around the world for nearly forty years.
