Description
The Chapelle Saint-Sixte in Egyliere France is a treasure. My aim was to capture the austere and enduring character of the ancient place of worship. The chapel is located on a rocky knoll 1 km from the village, near a spring, and was constructed in the 12th century on the site of an ancient sanctuary. A pilgrimage on Easter Tuesday, in honor of Pope Sixtus, still continues today. Mass is celebrated there weekly in summer

You portray such a sense of antiquity and stillness with your buildings R/W Bob. I love the sacred feeling of this 12th century chapel. I don't know anyone who paints like this and your paintings are such a tonic for a wandering mind! I wait and watch till they impart their quiet gift and they always do. So special. L/F

Superb painting, Bob! You captured so wonderfully the spirit of the place! I love your brushwork and the subtle chromatic you used...it creates such a special ambiance. Now you make me curious about it...maybe I will have the chance to visit one of these days, it is not so far from Lyon eventually. :) LF

The sense of solidity conveyed in this striking scene expresses the ancient allure of this medieval chapel, RW.
